Solveig is a wonderful model who we work with occassionaly at Expression College for Digital Arts. I’ve been spending time at the college instructing drawing labs. Feels good teaching the importance of a solid foundation of drawing skills to the students. Plus a chance for me to keep up the figure drawing and try to get better. There is always room for improvement. How those skills secretly slip away if you don’t keep up on a regular basis. Like doing scales for a musical instrument, drawing from life is imperative to keep your mind and eye sharp as to understading form, weight, light and composition.

Finally had a chance to see The Incredibles a couple nights ago, and have to say, was thoroughly impressed with the final product. Have to give props to a couple hard-working and very talented people I know at Pixar — Katherine Sarafian, the production manager and Paul Topolos, the one-man matte department. I’m happy to see Pixar experimenting with storylines that contain darker elements. They made a gamble with this particular film in that it doesn’t neatly fall into the same glossy package as Monsters Inc or Finding Nemo. (Both spectacular, by the way.) I always felt that animation shouldn’t be locked into the saccharine stereotype that so often is the case. (Thank you Michael Eisner…) Rather it’s just another medium to tell a story, and so far, Pixar has made stunning use of this fact. In the end, it’s all about the story…

Yay! I finally got the Kubrick template to work! Many thanks to Mr. Michael Heilemann for a lovely template to start with. Now it’s up to me to start fiddling around and making the design relevant to my site. You can find the template at http://binarybonsai.com/. Well here is my first test post. I thought I’d wait until I figure out CSS to redesign this site, since it happens to be the default. But my feet are dragging, so…… Here’s a post.
